Deirdre Dyson
Painting is my passion - to interpret my world through vibrant color, contrast and light.
I prefer to paint the landscape En Plein Air, with a rapid, loose block-in of local color,
then build up detail, emphasis and harmony. I do not embrace total realism, but am
selective with detail and use color to capture that elusive "essence or mood" of time
and place. If paintings are completed in the studio, I will use reference photographs,
but try to retain the spontaneity of outdoor observation.
I never tire of exploring the endless variety of form and color in nature ranging from the
curl of a petal or leaf, the twist of a tree limb, the folds of mountains, skies, oceans and
rocks and changes of season. By contrast I also enjoy the discipline of painting
architectural subjects , with landscaping that blends nature with man-made objects.
I was raised in England but now live in Ohio and part time in New Mexico, with other
travel in US and abroad as opportunity allows. I never leave home without my paints!
